Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on March 22 1976) is an American actress. She has received many accolades, such as an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people around the globe in 2006 and 2015, and Forbes listed her among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2019 and 2021. Forbes named her the World's Richest Actress in 2021. Her net worth is estimated to be 400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in the year 1991 as she was a teenager. In 1999, Witherspoon made her debut with the supporting role in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her performances in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) and in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) have earned her more attention. She received acclaim from critics and received the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career during which her only box office success was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen with the production and role in Wild (2014). She received a second Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. She has since primarily worked in the field of television, producing and starring in several female-led literary adaptations under her company Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020), all HBO dramas. She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first one. She directed the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as well as Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James clothing company and is involved in advocacy organizations for children and women. She sits on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was also honored to serve as the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's charitable foundation for women's issues in 2007.
